Samsung Said to Exclusively Use Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC on All Galaxy S25 Phones
The upcoming Galaxy S25 series, Samsung's non-foldable flagship, is set to be officially unveiled early next year. Despite initial leaks pointing towards Exynos chipsets for the lineup, a recent report suggests that the handsets will instead be powered exclusively by Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoCs. This marks a shift from the previous strategy of using both Snapdragon and Exynos chips in the Galaxy S24 series.
According to a report by Hankyung, all three models in the Galaxy S25 series will run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor, unlike the Galaxy S24 series which featured a mix of Snapdragon and Exynos chips. The Galaxy S23 series, on the other hand, exclusively used the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.
In the US, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, while in most other markets, including India, they come with Samsung's Exynos 2400. The premium Galaxy S24 Ultra model, however, uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy SoC across all markets.
Samsung is reportedly considering equipping the Galaxy Z Flip 7 or Galaxy Z Fold 7, set for release in the second half of 2025, with the Exynos 2500 chip. Previously, there were speculations that the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ might also feature the Exynos 2500 in certain regions.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC is expected to deliver a 30% improvement in generative AI functions compared to its predecessor. Qualcomm is said to provide the Galaxy chip with an overclocked GPU and CPU cores tailored for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Samsung's decision to exclusively use high-performance components, in collaboration with Qualcomm, reflects a new direction for the company. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC for Galaxy is poised to rival the performance of Apple's A18 chip, as per the report.
